Biography

Pastor Melvin Davis, the eleventh of twelve children born to the late Arthur Davis, Sr. and Lizzie Smash Davis, was reared in Franklin, LA.  Throughout his childhood and all his adult life, he has delivered the Gospel by way of music.

He moved to Charlotte, NC in 1971 and began to further his knowledge of music at Central Piedmont Community College in Charlotte, NC, which included a nine-month course in Music and Worship in the Church and Choral Directing. 

In 1982, he began attending and participating in the Gospel Music Workshop of America where he continued to increase his musical skills and knowledge.  He has performed with renowned gospel artists such as Rev. Darryl Coley, Luther Barnes and the Red Budd Gospel Choir, Rev. F. C. Barnes, David Allen, Rev. Don DeGrate and the DeGrate Delegation, and Rev. Douglas Miller.  He produced and recorded his first gospel album with the Alive For Christ Singers, a group he founded in 1986.  Melvin Davis and the Alive For Christ Singers were blessed with a second recording in 1998.

In September 1998, Elder Davis entered Greater Commission Theological Seminary to enhance his Bible knowledge.  With much diligence, he was blessed to receive his Bachelor of Arts degree in Theology in May 2001. In September 2009, he accepted the Lord’s call to preach the Word of God under the pastorate of Elder Keith J. Shuler, Pastor of New Beginnings Fellowship Church, Charlotte, North Carolina.  On June 12, 2016, Pastor Davis received his Master’s Degree from Partners to the Promise School of Christian Education.

Pastor Davis was united in Holy Matrimony to the former Clarissa Gardner on July 3, 1976. On July 21, 1986, God blessed Elder and First Lady Davis with Ashlei Dionne Davis, an Angel who made their lives complete with joy, peace and love. But on October 2, 2006, she departed this life to join the Angels above. She is gone from this world so full of strife, back to the God who gave her dear life.

Pastor Melvin and Lady Clarissa G. Davis will continue this glorious and humbling journey until the Lord returns.
